Ancestries

My name is Vox Zeveran, and I am an explorer. My mission is to chronicle the diverse peoples of Nimoria, from the timeless Awakened to the radiant Dryads thriving under the desert sun. As I embark on this world-spanning journey, I must admit that I feel a pang of regret leaving my life in the Grand Bastion behind. But the duty that has been given to me by the Silverhand is to uncover the rich histories and traditions of each race in this enchanted land. I will not fail — even if the journey may cost me my life. Below, you will find my detailed notes and observations. May your travels be ever safe and your adventures endless.

The Awakened are a race forged from the union of ancient elven magic and clockwork engineering. Their progenitor, known as the Originator, was unearthed nearly fifty years ago, discovered within the Marranian ruin. Little is known about his origin, except that he was an artificer in a society more technically advanced than any that currently walk Nimoria.

Bruins are a race of bear-like people. Towering, furred northerners, the Bruins possess a mercantile spirit that sees them roaming trade routes, carrying furs, exotic mead, or even magical trinkets. Though they are outwardly friendly, if you cross a Bruin settlement with ill intentions, be prepared to face a ferocity unlike any other people.

Dryads are an ancient, desert-dwelling people and fervent worshipers of the sun, whom they venerate as both Creator and Destroyer. They possess bark-like skin and leaf-hair shimmer under the scorching sun. They drink sunlight like we do water, converting its energy to aether. They balance life and death with a religious reverence, tending lethal poisons as carefully as they nurture seedlings. Its not uncommon for a Dryad warrior to bring down a basilisk with a single venomous dart — proof enough that while they seem graceful, they can be lethally efficient when pushed.

Beneath the mountains, the dwarven stone-singers turn stone into malleable clay. They carve their dwellings from living rock, singing ancient arias that hum through cavern walls. Stoic on the surface, dwarves guard a cultural tapestry woven from generations of triumphs and losses — each memory carried forward in those resonant songs. It’s a quiet strength: unyielding, dependable, and rooted in the very bones of the land.

Humans span every imaginable role in Nimoria. Their kingdoms, duchies, and free cities are as varied as the folk themselves. They might belong to merchant guilds who trade spices across continents or knights sworn to protect ancient shrines. If there’s one overarching human trait, it’s resilience: they adapt to deserts, mountains, and noble courts alike, fashioning society in whatever rough shape they need — and often proving they can flourish anywhere.

The Pixies are a proud race of diminutive, insect-like fae who dwell in small hive-mind societies dotted across the lands. Their faces are smooth, almost human, but their slender bodies are armored with chitin and root. They carry themselves on iridescent wings that ripple through the air like fish through a pond, and land on just about any surface that will hold their weight. Though their minds are connected by a strange, symbiotic enchantment, they still possess free-will and an adventurous spirit.

The Seelie hail from the Realm of the Fae, a world that exists parallel to Nimoria. Nearly a century ago, a small faction of Seelie sought to escape the conflicts within the Court of Summer. Driven by a desire for peace, they broke away to establish a new sanctuary in Nimoria known as the Court of Reflection.  These elves possess the rare ability to mirror walk, casting their reflections extreme distances to communicate with allies and spy on their enemies.

The goat-horned Unseelie wear their exile from the Fae Realm like a badge of pride. Living within a sentient mist where sunlight never touches the ground, there crimson eyes gleam with equal parts of magic and mirth. Kin to the Seelie yet wholly apart, they are masters of soulbinding, seeking to maintain the balance between the living and the dead.

The Undine are an aquatic race that live beneath the tides of the Crystal Reef. Tall with skin that radiates blue and green, they glide through the oxygen-rich waters, weaving between colossal bones of creatures long since slain. Though rare to see outside the reef, the Undine have no problems traveling across the land, preferring humid climates.
